Arrived in Tunisia… but still thinking back to the beautiful time we had in Nigeria. However, the focus is on Tunisian food now!

The Tunisian cuisine has a large diversity. There are dishes for every person with different taste and style. This food culture is influenced by many different countries like the Arabic, the Mediterranean and the French. When you like cooking with olive oil, coriander, saffron or mint, this cuisine will be just your cup of tea. Many dishes in Tunisia are cooked with olive oil, spiced with aniseed or saffron and flavored with mint or orange blossom. Some dishes are accompanied by a spicy chilli and garlic condiment.

In this country, we have the coast where you will find many kinds of fresh seafood and we have the Sahara region, which has other specialties such as stews. Through the whole country roast chicken and baked lamb dishes together with couscous and tajine are the most popular dishes on the menu.

When you are a vegetarian, it will not be easy to find the perfect food for you. However the country has many sorts of salads, soups, stews and egg-based meals you have to keep in mind that many of these dishes will have one, or more, little pieces of meat added in for flavor.

Then the desserts. These are not a big thing in Tunisia, although there is a wide range of Arabic sweets and cakes to choose from. Those are usually drenched in honey or syrup and filled with nuts. If that does not please you enough, there are French pastries like the croissants and pains au chocolat.

An interesting fact about Tunisia is that although it is an Islamic country, alcohol is permitted but you have to be 21 years old to drink it. The country has a range of table and sparkling wines, beers, aperitifs and local liqueurs.

And as we all know, pre-dinner drinks are very important, cheers!
