I cannot believe our trip is almost over! We arrived in Denmark, only one country to go after this one. First we went to see the symbol of the city Copenhagen: the statue of the Little Mermaid. For the Danes this statue is as important as the Statue of Liberty for the New Yorkers. There are no lines and crowds which makes it easy to get a look at the statue. The Little Mermaid was indeed inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s tale. He was a Danish writer.

The Rundetarn (or the Round Tower) gave us a panoramic view of Copenhagen. This is the oldest observatory in Europe. The stairs are really wide because it was built with the purpose to drive a horse-drawn carriage through it. The tower is still used by many amateur astronomers. Inside the tower you can also find a library hall that once had the entire book collection of the university. Also H.C. Andersen found inspiration for his work here.

Next we visited the bright chalk cliffs: the Cliffs of Mon. It is a nature preserve, including the woods above the cliffs. There are many walking paths and you can go down to the sea with a wooden staircase. This makes us think back to France where we also saw a series of white cliffs near the Mediterranean Sea: les Calanques. Although we already saw something alike, there are still worth the visit.

Our next visit was to a church from which only a tower is visible. The Saint Lawrence church was built in the second half of the 14th century. The sand drift reached the church at the end of the 18th century and they had to dig their way into the church. The following 20 years the Skageners struggled to keep the church sand free.

The last stop was West Jutland. It has some of the most beautiful nature in Denmark. There are Dunes, beaches, inlets, heathlands, bays and plantations. The landscape is characterised by countless bays and inlets by the magnificent Limfjorden. We also had the chance to go to the Wadden Sea National Park. It belongs to the Unesco World Heritage. This site stretches from Holland to Germany and up to Jutland. Its great birdlife was really impressive. The end is near. I am sad to say that we are going to the last country from our trip, Norway. I am still excited to discover new amazing sights though!
