Once arrived in Tunisia it was time for some relaxation. We visited the coastline in Tunis, the capital city. You may spend sunny afternoons by the Mediterranean beaches and get a gorgeous tan. Tunis is a very popular tourist destination. Next we enjoyed a camel ride in Douz, a town located at Sahara’s edge. It is easy to get around Tunisia because of its trains and taxis. There are also boats which take you to the other parts of the country.
You can also take a tour through the more historical towns and cultural tourist destinations. Carthage is a famous tourist spot because it is known in world history as the metropolis razed by the Romans. During our trip we visited a Roman amphitheatre in a small village, El Jem. This amphitheatre can hold up to 35,000 spectators. Because of its size and capacity, it belongs to the largest amphitheatres in the world. The monument of El Jem is one of the most accomplished examples of Roman architecture. This makes it almost equal to that of the Coliseum of Rome.

We highly recommend you to visit Sidi Bou Said. This is a small town in white and blue colors with narrow streets. You can compare it to the island of Santorin. The most famous street in this town is Habib Thameur Street. On the top of the hill at the end of this street you have a fantastic view over the Bay of Tunis and the yacht port of Sidi Bou Said. A little hint, there is also a cafe area on this hill. Sidi Bou Said mostly consists out of quiet picturesque streets.
Although we are not that far from Nigeria, we can notice a big difference. Tunisia has a bigger population and has smaller towns with beautiful narrow streets. Nigeria was more adventurous because of the rainforests and mountains. In Tunisia we are strolling through the streets and having a drink in one of the many cafes. Here we have a feeling that we are on a vacation because of the beaches and the many tourist attractions.
