In Italy, there is no specific kind of food that is common all over the country. The Italian cuisine is mostly influenced by local history and traditions but also by the local and seasonal availability of products. In this country the menu is a bit different from ours. The Italian people start with an antipasto, a primo, a secondo and a dessert. For each region this menu has its own regional food specialties. Some popular Italian dishes in a nutshell: pasta, pizza, ossobuch, parmesan cheese and tiramisu.

Through the centuries of social and political changes, the Italian cuisine has developed a lot. Significant changes were the introduction of tomatoes, potatoes, bell peppers and maize. For its difference in taste and the regional diversity we can say that the Italian cuisine is probably the most well-known in the world.

The Italian chefs rely on the quality of their ingredients rather than on the preparation. The major part of the cuisine is about cheese, wine and the espresso. Italians find it really pleasant to sit at the table, at home or at the restaurant. They love to talk about their family history. Each Italian will tell you about their family way to cook a specific dish using recipes of older generations. Maybe this is also the fact in other countries, but in Italy it has a deeper significance. This does not mean that the people do not like to discover new kinds of food.

The interest in Italian food and wine has risen in all countries. Everywhere you go you will find Italian restaurants but keep in mind that not all of them serve the real Italian stuff. When you really want to experience the Italian cuisine, I would advise you to search some typical restaurants on the Internet before you go out!

For the hungry readers I have added a video ‘How to make a real Italian pizza’. It is your turn now…Buon appetito!
