Italy is one of the leading countries in fashion design. Fashion has always been an important part of the country's cultural life and society, and Italians are well known for their attention of dressing-up well; "la bella figura" like they said. Italian style is known as being unique among competitors because of its elegance, excellent tailoring, exquisite fabrics, and unmatched creativity and innovation.

Italian men and women like things to last, and their choices in fashion reflect this. They only buy clothes that are good quality and are comfortable enough to wear on various occasions. A touch of fantasy is not unwelcome. They have become quite an indispensable part of Italian clothing over the past few decades.

Italian women keep their ensemble simple yet elegant. Women are always well-dressed in well-fitted clothes. Yes, even in early morning school drop-offs, you will rarely find a mom slovenly attired in jeans and an oversize sweat shirt.

Italian men's fashion is all about simplicity, veracity and wear ability. They wear suits.

The first Italian fashion show was held in the 1950's in Florence and was organized by Count Giovanni Battista Giorgini. This began to become a popular new trend and soon fashion shows were being produced throughout the whole country.

Nowadays, Italy organises more than one fashion event because different cities in the country are specialised in fashion. There is a lively competition between Milan, Florence and Rome that seems to stretch the biannual ritual of the fashion week. The biggest fashion show is in Milan. It is yearly organised at the end of February.

For Italians, it is not about clothes at all. Italian fashion is actually all about an attitude; an attitude of custom-made, fluid and sophistication.
