Do you also dream of being in a gondola in la bella Italia? Then you will be jealous because that is exactly what we did on our first day in Venice, Italy. Did you know that Venice has more tourists than residents? It is often referred to as The City of Water because there are over 150 canals who are stitched together.

Italy has the greatest number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the world. Rome, Venice and Florence are wold famous for their art and have been attracting visitors for centuries. This country is famous for the historical landmarks that date from the Roman Empire. That is why we had to visit the Colosseum in Rome. It reminds us of the Colosseum we saw in Tunisia but this one is obviously bigger and more impressive. It has survived 2,000 years of invasions and wars. Now it is the most famous sight in the city. It was wonderful to be able to see how the ancient entertainment events were held here.

While being here in Rome we also took some pictures of the popular Trevi Fountain. You can find one in our gallery. It is believed that if you throw a coin over your left shoulder in the fountain with your right hand, you will return to Rome one day. We also did this although we would still come back to this beautiful ancient city even we didn’t throw the coin.

During our Italian week we visited the Pisa Tower because none of us had already seen it. The construction of this tower started in 1173 but then the it began to sink due to a poorly foundation. It was quite exhausting to climb it’s 296 steps. We have also seen the largest brick dome ever built. This is the Basilica Di Santa Maria del Fiore which is a beautiful cathedral in Florence. Until the modern era, the dome was the largest in the world.

To have a break of all the cultural visits, we went looking for a well-known natural landmark. We found the Vesuvius, probably the most famous volcano. It is located in the city of Naples nearby the town Pompeii. The Vesuvius is a climbable volcano so we climbed to the top to see the crater. You may not know that this volcano is still active although the last major eruption was in 1944. This country does also have beautiful coasts, alpine lakes and mountains but we have to move on to the next country.
