Fashion in France

Along with Italy, France is a leading country in the fashion industry. Fashion is an important part of the country’s cultural life and society, the French are well known for good taste. Haute couture and the “prêt-à-porter” remain part of French traditional lifeBlog: France.

French women love black, white, navy and nude, tonal colours. These are very easy to wear regularly and match very well with other neutrals. They also are simple and versatile. French women obsess over cut. No dowdy jackets, too tight pants, or ill-fitting dresses are allowed. They have slim-fitting clothing that creates and accentuates curves and tailor the slightest details for perfect measure.

“Less is more” is another characteristic of the French fashion. Coco Chanel once said: “before leaving the house, a lady should look in the mirror and remove one accessory.” French women love to be feminine without being overly sexy or entertaining excessive extras. It is all about one piece and a dramatic red lip.

Another must are the details: the French focus on the finer details and as a result the whole outfit appears seamless and sophisticated.

In general, Parisian men have a different sense of style than the average American male. The French men leave the athletic clothes at home, they wear light-weight pants, no shorts and they wear comfortable shoes, no white tennis shoes.

The Fashion Week takes place in Paris twice a year after the Milan Fashion Week. It is the last and usually the most anticipated city of the fashion month. Dates are determined by the French Fashion Federation. Currently, the Fashion Week is held in the Carrousel du Louvre.

French people dress for themselves, they aim to feel good and as a result, they do a great job looking fresh and flawless. In France, it is all about attitude.
