Good evening people. Tomorrow morning my colleagues and I will arrive in Poland. We are almost at the end of our trip! Before we had dinner this night I said to the others not to eat too much because when we will eat in Poland our calories will go up very fast!

The Polish cuisine is a style of cooking in which the preparation of the meals became most important. This cuisine has, on the one hand, some similarities with other Slavic countries such as Belarus, Russia and Ukraine. On the other hand it also has influences from Germany, Austria and Hungary. The Polish people especially like meat such as pork, chicken and beef.

The reason why I said that our calories will go up very fast is because the Polish cuisine uses a lot of cream, meat and eggs. Their traditional dishes need a very good preparation. Polish people allow themselves an enormous amount of time to prepare their dishes especially when it is Christmas time or Easter. Preparing those meals could really take a number of days.

In Poland it is the tradition that the main meal is eaten at 2 p.m. You will be surprised when you see this meal since it is larger than the North American meal and I am pretty sure it is also larger than the European main meal. It is composed of three courses so, a whole menu, starting with a soup because Poland has a large range from clear broth to thick soup. This soups are so hearty that they can be a meal themselves. The best known soup is called borscht. After the soup we have the main meal which is often a traditional dish. To end they take a dessert. Poles really love desserts, especially cakes. They have many sorts of cakes such as cheesecakes, sponge cakes, poppy seed cakes and pound cake (Babka). For special days, like weddings, other cakes are baked.

So if you want to try the Polish cuisine, do not think about your calories. It is really worth it!
